The challenges
of operating a retail store in today’s market are numerous.
With the advent of the Internet, consumers have an alternative means
to do their shopping. However, retailers are trying to do everything
in their power to maintain a competitive edge.
"We want our
customers to feel stimulated by the sights and sounds in the entertaining
atmosphere of our stores," said Eric Ommundsen, manager, corporate
communications for Future Shop, a Canadian retailer. Future Shop
operates 80 super centers and one music and video software store.
With stores
averaging 25,400 sq. ft., four major criteria were considered in
the selection of a light source: efficient lumen output, cost savings
in lamp replacement, good color rendering and long performance life.
Future Shop
selected Venture’s 400 watt Uni-Form® pulse start metal
halide lamps and acrylic prismatic reflectors from Keene-Widelite,
Ontario, Canada. The metal halide pulse start system met the criteria
with faster warm-up and restrike times.
"It’s amazing
how much good lighting can enhance the environment of a store,"
Ommundsen said.
