Ranked among
the worlds top airports for overall customer satisfaction,
Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport continuously makes improvements
to provide an enjoyable experience traveling by air. The latest
project involved a comprehensive lighting retrofit of its parking
garage, seeking to reduce energy costs without sacrificing light
output.
Previously,
175, 250, and 400-watt standard metal halide lamps were used in
the parking garage; but after four years, they required changeouts.
Looking for the best solution, the airport opted for Ventures
125, 200 and 300-watt Uni-Form® pulse start metal halide lamps
for the retrofit.
In addition,
Ventures Opti-Wave™ Quint-Volt™ ballasts replaced
the previous ballasts, which were no longer compatible. The Venture
metal halide lamps provide an energy savings up to 113 watts per
luminaire, longer life and increased output. Light levels were doubled,
thus providing clearer images for airport security cameras as well.
Other benefits
ranged from large annual energy savings, reduced maintenance costs
and better color rendering, which aids in improved security, providing
a safe haven for customers in the parking garage. The substantial
energy savings correlates to an expected payback of just one year.
