Operating in
the highly competitive steel industry, International Steel Group
(ISG) seeks to provide total customer satisfaction. The first step
to accomplishing that is by providing employees the best working
environment they need to be productive.
ISG realized
the current mix of mercury vapor and high pressure sodium lighting
systems did not produce sufficient quality of light. The 1000 watt
high pressure sodium lamps and 1000 watt mercury vapor lamps were
ineffective in the 875,000 sq. ft. facility with ceiling heights
ranging from 40-60 feet.
To provide a
light source that resembled sunlight, Venture Lighting’s 875
watt Uni-Form® pulse start metal halide lamps were mounted 40
feet high and spaced 20 feet apart. They provide appealing white
light, a higher color rendering index of 65-70 compared with the
previous 22 of the high pressure sodium, 50 of the mercury vapor,
and added energy savings over the other HID lighting sources.
Venture’s
875 watt lamps provide 9,000 more mean lumens than the standard
1000 watt and save up to 155 system watts. The system provides more
light with fewer lamps and luminaires, provides longer lamp life
and reduces costs. Payback for the initial relamping costs is 11
months.
