Daylight harvesting
is an example of a lighting strategy designed to lower ever-growing
aggregated energy bills for big-box retailers. In addition, consumers
prefer shopping in stores that use natural light to bathe aisles
and render colors accurately.
Hybrid lighting
designs allow bright sunlight to provide up to 100 percent of illumination
during midday, when energy costs are highest. Continuously dimmable
lighting (100% down to 50% power) saves energy under these conditions.
When clouds roll in or nighttime falls, power can be increased continuously
to maintain nearly constant light levels.
The type of
lamp incorporated with daylight harvesting is critical. The lamps
light quality should blend well with natural light and provide good
color rendering and contrast. Venture Lightings Uni-Form®
pulse start metal halide e-Lamp produces both a bright white
light that blends with natural light and a consistent color quality
that accurately renders colors of products, company logos, signs
and other objects. The
e-Lamps combine with Opti-Wave
high frequency electronic ballasts to create dimmable metal halide
lighting that capitalizes on daylight harvesting.
